Leadership Project Proposal (20% or 200 points total)
Overview:
The final proposal must be in this form before I can approve of your leadership project:
It must have a handle as your title: The handle is a title that calls up an image of the project The first part must present an overview of the project: Present the concern it is addressing and who the relevant parties are (those who share that concern in some way). This first part must also include stating what the project is from the perspective of the present as a future to be realized (for instance, here's mine: "Each and every student of this course being a leader and exercising leadership as their natural self-expression"). The second part shares the process you followed: demonstrate that you have followed the three steps of the procedure to develop your project (see below) and that your project is workable as a leadership project, that is, it meets these criteria:
The third part of the proposal presents the current conditions and mindsets of yourself and the relevant parties: In this part, provide a list of relevant parties, their potential roles in the project, and the conditions you and the relevant parties are dealing with (including what mindsets you and they have concerning those conditions). Also provide a forecast of your timeline with what must be accomplished and by when. |
Notes for Part 1:
Create a Handle:
In addition to this full statement, create a name that serves as a handle – a name that calls up the image of your Project. You may change the name as you move through the project until you find the "one." Stating Your Course Leadership Project: When you have created your Course Leadership Project (following the procedure and criteria (see notes for part 2 below), initially you may have to state it from the present as a future to be realized. But for it to be empowering for you, you will have to re-state it from the future. That means you stand in that future and state it as a realized future – as it will be in that future. Make certain you have stated that realized future so that you and others can actually see what it says. Nothing conceptual, rather this is what this looks like as realized. Notes for Part 2:
Procedure to follow preparing to write the proposal,

Share how you used this criteria to design your project in the second part of the proposal.
|
Notes for Part 3:
Respond to the following questions as you complete your proposal for the leadership project. You need to include your responses in the third part of the proposal.
Part three also should include a forecast of your timeline with what must be accomplished and by when. |
Drafting the Proposal
The title of the proposal should be what will serve as a handle – a name that calls up the image of your Project.
In the first part of the proposal, you will present the project, the concern or concerns it addresses, and the relevant parties. You will need to state what the project is from the perspective of the present as a future to be realized, that is, re-stated from the future. That means you stand in that future and state it as a realized future – as it will be in that future. Make certain you have stated that realized future so that you and others can actually see what it says. Nothing conceptual, rather this is what this looks like as realized. In the second part of the proposal, you are to present your process of moving through the above steps, how you have applied the criteria in determining that your Leadership project will work for the length of this course. You are to also provide a list of relevant parties, their potential roles in the project, and a forecast of your timeline with what must be accomplished and by when. For the third part, provide a list of relevant parties, their potential roles in the project, and the conditions you and the relevant parties are dealing with (including what mindsets you and they have concerning those conditions). Also provide a forecast of your timeline with what must be accomplished and by when. |
1st Draft: 5% (50 points), due by Feb 11th
The expectation for your first draft of this proposal is to get yourself on the court in terms of having a project that will serve as your laboratory for the class, and so even if you merely share ideas without much clarity or direction, that will be sufficient for the first draft.
The instructions for this initial draft: --Provide a title for the project that will also serve as a handle – a name that calls up the image of your Project. --In the first part of the proposal, you will need to state what the project is from the perspective of the present as a future to be realized, that is, re-stated from the future. That means you stand in that future and state it as a realized future – as it will be in that future. Make certain you have stated that realized future so that you and others can actually see what it says. Nothing conceptual, rather this is what this looks like as realized. The above two items must be present in the initial draft to be counted as complete to receive full credit. Note: this is the kernel of the proposal, and as such, you will include this, further developed, in the 2nd draft until it is complete, lacking no part. 2nd Draft (15%, 150 points), initially due Feb 18thAs you continue to think about and engage in the process of proposing a project, and pursuing its fulfillment, you will discover new possibilities to pursue, which possibilities will impact what you are proposing.
Any changes are welcome as long as you document them. For this reason, the 2nd draft (due initially on Feb 18th) will be an open-ended draft. That means you will continue to revise this, and develop it further well into the semester. At the same time, you must actually attempt to complete all the parts that must be there, and I must also approve the project. Here are all the parts that must be present to get full credit for the 2nd draft (15%; 150 points):
